Join Me at the Chicago Gluten-Free & Allergen-Friendly Expo!!

Happy Saturday Friends!!

I apologize for being a bit MIA these past few weeks.. Grad school work has started piling up as we near the end of the semester, so I may not be posting as much as I have been. (Sorry, y'all but gatta keep that GPA up! I've been doing so good these past 11 months!!)

But this will not stop me from sharing a super awesome event for all of us who deal with the trials and tribulations of food sensitives!!!

Ladies and gents, the Gluten-Free & Allergen-Friendly Expo!!

This expo is becoming one of the largest and fastest growing events for those of us with special diets needs! You know when you go to other events, and you have to really watch the samples and foods you try for the fear of hidden gluten? (Or whatever your Achille's Heel may be...)

NOT HERE!! EVERYTHING is gluten-free (*squeal!*) and the majority is free of common food allergens (nuts, soy, eggs, dairy, ect.) And, from what I remember from attending last year, the vendors have labels denoting what their samples are free of. No guess work, just good eatin'!

Me with fellow bloggers, Kayla and Ashley, at last year's Chicago GFAF Expo!

As I mentioned, I was able to attend the GFAF Expo in Chicago last year. At the time, I was not aware of my gluten sensitivity. I simply attended due to my fascination with food sensitives in the interest of dietetics.

However, this year, I am excited to announce that I am an official blogger for the GFAF Expo!! :-D

This means I will be giving you the inside scoop on everything GFAF before & during the expo (as if I wasn't already going to do that! :-D)

I am SO excited to attend the expo again this year, especially now with my confirmed gluten sensitivity! I remember all the delicious food I tried last year! Honestly, seeing these brands at the expo was what helped me after going gluten-free back in November!

Here are the vendors I am looking forward to see this year!

  • Nicer Foods: OK, so there are those of us who have to be on a gluten-free diet or a dairy-free diet, but the people I really feel for are those on a low FODMAP diet... People who are on a low FODMAP diet (those with severe IBS, Crohn's, ect.) do not just have to look out for gluten and dairy, but also a laundry list of fruits, vegetables, teas, sugars, and additives! When you look at the list of items that are consider "trigger" foods for these people, there is really no easy rhyme or reason.. It's not just "Oh! I have to look out for gluten." It is "Oh! I have to look out for gluten, dairy, apples, garlic, kidney beans, asparagus, avocado, plum, watermelon, chamomile tea..." and the list goes on and on! It's hard enough to find foods without gluten, but even harder to find low FODMAP foods!! That is why I am so excited to see Nicer Foods at this year's GFAF Expo! The founders Jessie and Kate (an RD!!!) created this company out of their own necessity. As followers of a low FODMAP diet themselves, they were tired of looking at packages and saying, "Nope. Can't eat that!" So, they began Nicer Foods, the first US company dedicated to creating FODMAP friendly foods! Their dream is to one day see a "FODMAP Friendly" section in the grocery store, which I think is an inspiring idea and I back 100%! Kate & Jesse, I can't wait to meet you and try your products!
  • Redbridge: Beer is probably one the things I miss most since going gluten-free (call me crazy, but I actually like the taste!) And sippin' on Angry Orchard isn't quite as B.A. as sippin' on an ice cold brewski... So, I am excited that Anheuser-Busch is going to have Redbridge at this year's GFAF Expo! Last year's gluten-free beer was Omission, which was quite yummy! But, I have been wanting to try Redbridge for a while now, since it is AB's only gluten-free beer. It is kinda sad that I have to go all to way to Chicago to try a lager that is brewed 10 minutes from me in St. Louis, but AB doesn't offer this as sample option during their tours (what gives, AB?! Forget about your GF tourists?!) Regardless, I am excited to try Redbridge, and possibly add it to my go-to's for GF beers. :)
  • Wildtree: I love going to those food parties like Pampered Chef. The only issue, besides worrying about gluten, is the long lists of additives and chemicals in the products. I have been wondering if there is a company like that out there who offers organic products... So when I came across Wildtree, I got uber excited! All of there products are organic, nongmo, without additives, and without dyes! They only state a few products as being gluten-free, so hopefully they will expand upon that selection. Regardless, I look forward to seeing them at the expo as well!

The Chicago GFAF Expo will take place May 2nd & 3rd at the Schaumburg Convention Center. The event will feature the expo along with various speakers and presentations throughout the day! It a great event to attend if you are a curious consumer, have recently been diagnosed with a food sensitivity, or if you are a seasoned food allergen vet just wanting some insight on new information and the latest products!
