DIY Essential Oil Diffuser + Mia Mariu Relax EO Blend Giveaway



Happy Friday Everyone!

Well, this week started out really cruddy but has ended really AMAZING! :)

The beginning was really cruddy because I was UBER stressed!! A lot of things were on my mind and I was this close to having one of those panic attacks I use to get...

Thankfully, as I have grown older and wiser (kinda), I am now able to recognize the signs BEFORE the panic attack happens and take the proper steps to calm myself down.

How do I do that? Essential Oils! 

You hear me preach about essential oils every now and again, and I have become such a firm believer in their power! They have helped me so much (skin issues, stomach pain, muscle aches, you name it!)

I have, in fact, been diagnosed with anxiety. Honestly, I really didn't need a therapist to tell me that, because the fact that my boyfriend constantly reminds me to stop worrying is a pretty good indicator...

But, it is in my genes and have had a long line of family members who have dealt with anxiety or depression on some spectrum. So, there is only so much of it I can control (aka very little..)

I was on anxiety medication for a few months a while back, and I HATED IT!! Instead of feeling worried, I felt numb... which I think is even worse! And I was having these crazy thoughts that were NOT me!

So I abandoned Rx meds (like I usually end up doing...) and sought a way to treat my anxiety naturally. That is when I stumbled upon essential oils! The oils that are great for anxiety include lavender, chamomile, geranium, marjoram, clary sage, and sandalwood (Anderson & Mihina, 2010).

There are many different ways to use essential oils, from direct topical application to diffusion. I choose to use diffusion or inhalation when I need to calm my anxiety, and here is why!

When breathing essential oils in through your nose, the aroma of the oils travel through your sinuses and into what is called the limbic system of the brain. This is the deeper layer of the brain, where a lot of the nitty gritty neuro-functions happen (Anderson & Mihina, 2010).

This part of your brain is also called your "emotional brain," because it plays a big part in the your emotional state (Anderson & Mihina, 2010). So when trying to cope with an emotion like anxiety, I find it best to send those calming oils straight to emotion control center!

And this past week, this is what I turned to when I felt like I was about the go over the edge! I doctored myself up a little MacGyver diffuser to send those relaxing oils into the air and bring me to a state of serenity!

I love this DIY diffuser because it is super cheap and super easy! To buy a true essential oil diffuser can cost you anywhere from $30-$50! And when I am lucky to be able to fork out money for groceries at the end of the week, I am not about to drop that chunk of change on a diffuser! This one costs under $10!

Here is what you need:
1 Candle Warmer
1 ceramic or glass mug
Water
Essential oil of your choice

What to do:
Fill mug 2/3 full with water.
Put 6-10 drops of essential oil in water.
Mix with a spoon.
Place mug on candle warmer that has been turned on.
Keep water moderately full, as it does evaporate.

I would turn on my "diffuser" and allow the essential oils to engulf me as I diligently worked the week away. I also like to have it on before I sleep to help me calm my mind and have a more restful slumber. I wake up feeling so refreshed!

Do essential oils take away ALL your worry? No. But! My old therapist use to tell me persistently that worrying is a way of your body telling you something isn't right, even with those of us who tend to worry all the time. Back then, I didn't listen to her. I just insisted that I was nuts and needed meds...

But as I have made this transition to a holistic lifestyle, I now 100% agree with her! As exhausting as it is to worry so much, there are times and situations in our lives where we should stop and listen to the alarms our bodies are raising!

Essential oils are a great way to help your mind achieve that calm so you can really examine and evaluate the situation! They don't mask the anxiety, they simply allow you to handle it better!

The oil I used this week was Relax by Mia Mariu. This has a blend of oils including lavender, cedar, sandalwood, and clary sage! It also comes blended with carrier oils, almond and coconut oil, so it can safely be applied topically as well (like a nice back message ;-) ).



I love this essential oil blend, because they all work together to really enhance the calming effect! All the oils are also 100% organic, alcohol free, sulfate free, paraben free, and fragrance free (added fragrance that is.)

This blend of oils smells absolutely divine! It definitely helps "promote inner peace and relaxation" as the company claims on its website!
