Healthy Vegan Peppermint Hot Chocolate

I have talked about essentials oils in past posts, and they have steadily began taking over my bathroom! If you are not quite familiar with EO's and aromatherapy, I encourage you to learn more about the benefits of essential oils!

One of my favorite oils is peppermint oil, which has been said to be "the most useful oil!" This is because can help with just about everything! Peppermint oil can:

  • Relieve headaches
  • Ease stomach/ digestive issues
  • Improve focus & concentration
  • Relieve body aches
  • Help with colds/ sore throat
  • Repel household pests

I am pretty sure that covers most of our daily concerns, wouldn't you agree? For these reasons, peppermint oil is one of the best oils to keep on hand. It was also one of the first oils I purchased when I started delving into EO's and building my stock!

You can get the benefits of EO's various ways. They can be applied topically (with a carrier oil such as jojoba or coconut), inhalation, and, for some, ingestion. You can find the specifics for proper dilution and methods here.

One of my favorite uses for peppermint oil is to add a (very, very) small bit to my hot chocolate! When I was young, I would add a HANDFULS of Andes Baking Mints to my hot chocolate! Needless to say, not the healthiest of treats, but boy was it amazing! Now I have a way to get my delicious peppermint hot chocolate that is healthy and has all the benefits of EO's!

Here is my:
Peppermint Hot Chocolate Recipe

Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1

You Need:
Hot Water
Almond Milk (or Coconut Milk)
2 tbsp of Unsweetened Coco Powder
1 Packet of Organic, Pure stevia
Peppermint Essential Oil

Directions:
Heat up hot water (either with tea kettle, stove top sauce pan, or microwave.)
Put coco powder and stevia into a mug.
Once water is boiling, pour mug with coco powder and stevia half way. Mix until dissolved.
Fill the mug the rest of the way up with almond milk. (If you aren't afraid of the drink being too hot, you can heat up the milk too. I find it good to add cold milk to balance the boiling water.)
Put one drop of peppermint essential oil on a spoon. Flick the drop in the sink (Sounds odd, but a little peppermint oil goes a LONG way! One full drop is much too powerful for one mug of hot chocolate!)
Use that spoon to mix ingredients in the mug.
(Optional) Top with Coconut Whipped Cream. (Recipe with the Vegan Ice Cream Recipe.)
Enjoy a creamy, delicious hot chocolate!

This peppermint drink is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up, or go-to for those "time-of-the-month" woes (you know, when you just need chocolate!)

But if you want to make sure you are getting these benefits from your peppermint oil, be sure you are buying quality, 100% pure oil! You don't want your oil to be full of nasty chemicals and fillers!

That is why I am excited to offer to you all the opportunity to win your own bottle of peppermint oil from the lovely people at La Lune Naturals

You all know I only choose to support companies that provide quality products. So when I read the La Lune Natural's promise to "only supply the most natural and organic certified products available," I knew they were a company worthy of my readers! :)

Their peppermint oil is 100% pure, certified therapeutic grade. It contains no additives and is certified kosher and vegan. It is also certified by the NAHA (National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy), so you know this is good, quality stuff!

You can check out the label for yourself!
I also love that the bottle comes with a glass dropper, not just those orifice droppers. With the orifice, I ALWAYS end up getting more out than I need, resulting in a lot of wasted oil (and as we all know EO's are not cheap!!) This bottle is also a HUGE 4 OZ!!!! Not just a measly .5 oz like most EO's. That means you get 2,400 drops of peppermint essential oil per bottle!!

La Lune Naturals has other great products as well, like konjac sponges and seaweed powder! They also have eBooks with recipes featuring their products and all-natural skincare guides, FOR FREE!! Definitely check out their website and give them a "like" on Facebook!
