Matcha Tea Honey Face Mask + Product Review

The holidays can be a very stressful time! This year has definitely raised the bar for me, for my boyfriend and I volunteered to host his family's Christmas Eve dinner. So this last week has been full of planning and prepping.

I have never cooked a meal like this for a large group, but I did have to run a restaurant during my undergrad so I am quite familiar with quantity production and prepping. That was prepping for 100+ people, Christmas Eve is only for 20-30. So I am worried, but I am not worried..

With all this stress during the holiday season, it is important to set aside some time for yourself to unwind and relax! One of my favorite ways to do this is by sipping on some hot tea or a little pampering with a face mask.

One of the newest products that has come into my radar for my R&R sessions is Kiss Me Organics Matcha Green Tea Powder. We have all heard of the benefits of green tea. Well, matcha tea magnifies those benefits!

Basically matcha tea is those green tea leaves ground up into a powder. So instead of seeping the leaves, you are dissolving them into a liquid and consuming the entire leaf! Pretty neat, huh!!

We can compare the benefits of this to that of juicing. While I know I will probably upset a lot of people by saying this, I am not a fan of juicing.. I find it to be quite bothersome and, frankly, unnecessary... When you are juicing a veggie or fruit, you are not getting the vitamins and nutrients that are in the "pulp."

Just as when you are simply seeping the tea leaves, you also don't get all those nutrients. When it is ground up into a powder, like the matcha, you get almost 137 times the nutrient composition than traditional green tea, according to a study done at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

So.. yeah! This stuff is pretty rockin'!

As I have mentioned before, it is important to find quality products to put in and on your body! Organic is always the way to go! That is why I love the Kiss Me Organics brand. They are a USDA certified organic company.

However, as they state on their website, "sometimes simply choosing an organic Matcha is not enough. Many farms are still exposed to industrial pollution because of their geographic location. Polluted rain water, toxic runoff in the soil, and noxious gasses from nearby plants are just a few of the ways that an organic tea farm could still be exposed to unsafe levels of toxins. The only way to ensure that you’re getting the safest product available is to choose a vendor who has lab-tested their leaves. We tested tea samples from several organic farms to ensure that we’re bringing you the purest tea products available."

Kiss Me Organics also gets their leaves from the place where the matcha tea revolution all started, Japan. So you know that it has the highest quality and purification. Winners in my book!

You can use matcha tea simply by dissolving it in hot water or hot milk for a latte (yum! yum!) You can also add it to smoothies or even your baked goods!! Yea.. I plan doing some mad scientist baking with matcha tea once the holidays are over!

While you can certainly find a smorgasbord of matcha tea latte recipes on Pinterest, I am going to provide you with one of my favorite ways to use this matcha tea: a face mask!

I am sure you have heard of using brewed green tea in face masks. Well this is that same concept, only you get to smother the entire darn tea leaf on your face! Remember that 137 times the nutrient content I mentioned earlier? Well, think about what that can do for your skin!

EXACTLY! Glorious, wonderful things! My skin has improved dramatically the last few weeks. One reason is because of my recent break up with gluten. The other is because of this matcha green tea face mask! It has made my skin so soft and really evened out my skin tone. I highly recommend you give it a go! :)

All you need is four simple ingredients! Here is the "recipe."

Matcha Tea Honey Face Mask

You need:
1 tsp Kiss Me Organics Matcha Tea Powder
Pin me!
1/2 tsp Organic Honey
2 drops Tea Tree Oil
1/2 tsp Water

Combine all ingredients into a bowl. If mask is too runny, add more powder. If mask is too thick, add more water. Smooth mask on freshly cleaned face. Let sit for 15-20 minutes (do not leave on for longer or it will stain your skin and be a bit difficult to get off). Rinse off with clean wash cloth (careful not to get into your hair!!) If a green residue is left behind on skin, use my ACV toner on a cotton ball to remove. Follow with moisturizer.

I do this about 2-3 times a week. The tea tree oil is great for oily skin and the honey is great for moisturizing and antibacterial properties. I have also made this by using ACV instead of the water but it was so strong it would make my eyes burn. I may try experimenting by adding a drop or two next time, for ACV is does wonders for my skin as well. :)

Well, I need to get back to the holiday feast preparations! Be sure to check out Kiss Me Organics Matcha Green Tea! (Click here if from the UK or here if from Canada.)

HUGE thanks to Kiss Me Organics for letting me test out their matcha tea! (BTW it also tastes quite delicious!!)
