Edamam Nutrition Wizard Review

As an dietitian-in-training, it probably comes to no surprise that I love food! I mean, com'mon, I spent thousands of dollars to go to college just to study it! I love food THAT much!

But I don't just love eating food, I love cooking it! While most little girls would get dolls or lip gloss for Christmas, I got a set of measuring cups and a cookbook. That was all it took for this love affair to begin.

Now as a grown-up (most days), I spend numerous hours during the week trying out recipes and searching for new ones on Pinterest. And with my recent switch to a gluten-free diet, there is a whole new recipe world to explore!!

Just as any other foodie, I typically cook up my own unique concoctions in the kitchen, or at least tweak those recipes I find. However, it does not take long before that nutritionista in me comes bubbling to the surface and I have a burning curiosity to know the nutritional content of my dish!

Now, when it comes to getting the nutrition facts for a recipe, there are numerous sites to choose from. However, most of these sites only give you half of the nutritional story, such as calories, carbs, fat, protein, and maybe sodium and fiber. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE REST?!

Did you know that a recipe can contain 15+ different nutrients? That includes macro- and micro-nutrients (macro- being your carbs, fat, and protein; micro- being your vitamins and minerals).

That is why I was so excited to try out Edamam's Nutrition Wizard Plus. The Nutrition Wizard analyzes your recipe against 20+ nutrients! Not only that, but it was super easy to put in my recipes. Just simply copy and paste.

I decided to try out the Nutrition Wizard with my Dairy-Free Pumpkin Spice Creamer!

I decided to give the wizard a whirl with my "famous" Dairy-Free Pumpkin Spice Creamer. I always say I like a little creamer with my coffee, so I have to be careful not to turn my morning cup o' Joe into a sugar-laden. calorie-packed disaster. The nutrition facts panel on store-bought creamers help keep me in check, but when it is my own recipe there is nothing stopping me!

A quick copy and paste of the recipe and the Nutrition Wizard magically gave me the full nutrition panel of the pumpkin spice creamer, from saturated vs unsaturated fats to every vitamin and mineral. When was the last time your recipe calculator gave you all the B vitamins!?

The nutrient facts for the creamer
You can download a full nutrition facts panel of the recipe.

Not only can you save your own recipe with Edamam, but you can also search through the database of recipes saved by other users on the site. You can filter through those recipes based on the diet label, calories, and food allergies.

"Dietitians and nutritionists who have tried the Nutrition Wizard like its accuracy, low price point and the fact it is accessible from anywhere." - Edamam's Website

You can take advantage of this awesome recipe analysis software for just $2.95 a month for the Basic or  $5.95 a month for the Plus (which can probably be tax deductible as a business expense!! Check on this article on ProBlogger) Here is a breakdown of what each package includes.

This program would be beneficial for many people. The nutrition facts panel would be great for foodie bloggers to add that extra kick to their recipes or personal chefs to add to their products.

I was also super impressed when I saw that they even have a plugin for WordPress (also kind of mad because now I wish I used WordPress...) This plugin will make it that much easier to add the nutrition content to your posts or website.

The Nutrition Wizard even has a WordPress plugin! Pretty slick :)

Be sure to check out more information about the Nutrition Wizard on Edamam's website!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
